So you want to make it to the World Series of Poker (WSOP).  You can dominate your buddies in your weekly game, but still have trouble playing against people you have never played before.  This is pretty typical when it comes to playing online.  These 5 Basic tips can certainly help you elevate your game to the next level and who knows, maybe you will be sitting at a table in the WSOP!

1. Fold More Often than you Play- This is probably the most common mistake players make, playing way to many hands.  Poker is a game of patience and looking for the right hand.  Most people just want to play poker, which means playing every hand.  Playing more hands means you will lose your money quicker, not win more money faster.  If you are playing more than half of your hands, you are playing way to often and need to revisit your starting hand requirements!

2. Don't Play Drunk- Seems simple enough, but countless times you can sit at a table and watch your playing partners get wasted.  This results in bad hands, wasted chips and poor judgement.  This might not be a big deal if you are playing with your buddies in a low stake game and everyone is getting plastered, but if you are playing serious poker, watch your alcohol intake.

3. Don't Bluff Just For the Sake of Bluffing- How many people have done this?  We all have, you think you can bluff your way into an easy win by going all in on a pair of 4's.  It might work sometime, but mostly someone is going to call you on it and you are stuck with no chips and a measly pair of 4's that seem to be laughing at you.  Be smart when trying to bluff, bluff to often, and people will pick up on this.  There are no rules on how to bluff, its all situation and how well you know your players.  But its better to never bluff, than to just bluff for the sake of bluffing.

4. Don't Stay in a Hand Just Because You're Already In It- Besides having some delicious chicken, Kenny Roger's was right.  You gotta know when to hold'em, know when Fold'em, and Know when to Walk away.  Dont let your pride keep you in a hand.  If the turn comes and you are holding crap and you dont feel comfortable with it, dont worry that you raised on the flop.  Get out of the hand and dont lose anymore money.

5. Be an informed Player- Poker is a very complex game based on odds, knowledge and a little luck.  The more you know, the better you will play.  Things are constantly happening in the WSOP, and you need to stay up to date with the most current WSOP News.  Who knows, you might just win your seat and a chance to win the World Series of Poker.
